Mrs. Anchalee Phuphrasert, School Director, PIM Demonstration School (Satit PIM) speaks about what she thinks are the ingredients for a resilient school system in Thailand on 11 October 2022 at Park Hyatt Hotel, Bangkok.
The event was arranged concurrently with a high-level visit of Education Finland delegates led by Mr. Jouni Kangasniemi, Senior Ministerial Adviser, Education Finland (under the Ministry of Education).
H.E. Mr. Jyri Järviaho, Ambassador of the Republic of Finland to Thailand and Ambassador-Designate to Cambodia, opened the event with his personal story about how he, as a young boy from a small village of 2,800 people was able to receive the same quality of education equal to the big cities of Finland.
Mr. Jouni continued and emphasized how schools must adopt and approach to prepare students to learn in preparation for life and not for tests.
Ms. Rika Yorozu, Head, Executive Office of the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Education was also key note speaker. She provided figures showing how lesson loss is prevalent in all levels of education. She emphasized that current tests has become outdated and must be re-evaluated and updated to reflect the effects of living with the Covid 19 situation for the past 2 years.
This resonated with Mrs. Anchalee, who as part of PIM, is an advocate equipping young people with useful skills while also ensuring that the joy of learning is upheld at the high school level. When asked to summarize her thoughts for how to move forward, she brought forth her own idea of 3Rs: Revolution, Restructuring, and Receptiveness. All three are key ingredients for the recipe of success in education.
Mrs. Anchalee was joined by Ms. Sanna Nummela, EduCluster Finland; Ms. Niina Nyyssölä, Tampere University; and Ms. Wanweera Rachdawong, Chief Executive Officer, Thailand Management Assiciation (TMA). The panel was moderated by Ms. Anna Korpi, Counsellor, Education and Science, Embassy of Finland.
