Mr. Kai Tuorila, Senior Advisor to the Thai-Finnish Chamber of Commerce, gave a special lecture on the Finnish education system for selected PIM faculty and staff on 17 September 2020.
Dr. Usanee Kulintornprasert, Director, Office of International Relations opened the seminar and introduced the speaker by connecting Mr. Kai’s contributions to the growth of Finnish enterprise in the region and his commitment to promoting the good practices of the Finnish education system.
Mr. Kai’s attributes Finland’s education system as key to the nation’s success. He mentioned salient points that overtime resulted in the development of an educational system that is free, equal in access, and high quality. These salient points are characterized by:
- No one is left behind
- Trust and equality
- Decentralized decisions that complement the nation’s policies
- Imparting the importance of the joy of learning
- Highly trained and respected teachers
- No standardized tests or rankings of schools, teachers, and students
- Collaboration rather than competition
He added that the overall student performance is among the world’s best. He concluded by noting that Finland is recognized as the happiest country in the world.
After the talk, an active Q&A session transpired with Dr. M.L. Sornsiri Voravarn, Dean, Faculty of Education concluding the session, thanking Mr. Kai for his generous time.
