PIM has a network of educational partnerships with 222 universities around the world and therefore many foreign exchange students come to study here. Today let’s get to know our exchange students from various countries who come to study with us.
- Liam Bodin from Sweden
“I am 21 years old from Sweden, Boras. I’m an exchange student here at PIM to study with the iMTM batch. This is my first time in Thailand and I love it. The people, the food, the atmosphere. It’s so different compared to Europe. I’ve been to many countries in Europe and have seen most of Europe, so seeing Asia for the first time and Thailand, it’s amazing and I think my stay here will be one of the biggest things I will ever do in my life.
Being an exchange student is also very different to being a student in Sweden. The learning systems or lectures in Sweden and Thailand are very different. Here in Thailand, we get a much greater relationship with the teacher compared to Sweden, we barely ever talk to the teachers in Sweden actually because we are a batch of 100 students in one big lecture and the teacher is in the front talking. Here we’re much smaller classes just about 20 people in our class and it’s much easier for the teacher to get to know the students individually.
We have a lot of classmates from Cambodia, Myanmar, one guy from Bhutan, one from Kazakhstan and also Russia and a few from Thailand as well so it’s great to see all the people from different countries in our class.
I would say this is your chance to get a new perspective on how people work in different parts of the world. It’s easy for you to be comfortable with. How do you see everything in the country you live in but take your chance to go far away from home, for me it was Asia. It’s a great opportunity to see the perspective from a new point of view.”
- Tharymonyneat Mam
“I’m an exchange student program here from CamEd Business School in Cambodia. I’ve been to Thailand a few times but it’s only just been in Bangkok. The study atmosphere is also very different because in CamEd it is always more of based and they test you based on how good you’re memorizing it. Here it’s about teamwork which I find it very interesting. Every class we have to present something and we have to come up with a pitch to present idea so it’s really like exercising you to use your brain and think of something very practical and stuff like that.
Being an exchange student helps me gain a real-life experience of what I would expect to happen if I were to work in a company for example, in one of our projects we had to go into a rural area and talk to people there so the project made us build a system for pitch our idea to what would work if we were to sell their products from selling rural area products for people in the city and stuff so I think it would help me gain a lot of experience.
If I can recommend this program, I would probably say to go for it. Because you’re not only learn about the work-based program but also being more independent. In Cambodia I’m like very dependent on my family so here I have to do everything by myself and it teaches me a lot.”
- Nadezhda Popoua from Russia
“I’m from Saint Petersburg State University of Economic and I studied tourism there. Here I study iMBA for my master degree and I take one class from iMTM as well. I love the classmates and the teacher. I like practical knowledge and that we learn new things that I will not be able to learn in Russia. For example, like Go at Oriental Wisdom in Management class because it’s something which is not practice in Russia so we have more like theoretical knowledge but here you learn like more practically. It’s very interesting and I would say it’s something unusual but in a good term.
This is my first time in Thailand. First of all, what I’ve heard is that Thailand is a prominent travel destination for Russian tourists. I know something about Thai cuisine as well like, Tom Yum and Pad Thai. I heard about a lot of temples and so a beach destination for a lot of tourists around the world. I love the people here. They are really kind and hospitable and you always feel it.
Being an exchange student is a great opportunity to boarding your mind to get more open-minded to see another culture and I would give advice to go as an exchange in Thailand to anyone who can do that because it’s just another culture utterly different from Russian and so that is how you can change your mind and boarder it. To open something new for yourself and to meet a lot of new people as well.”
- Noel Skoglund from Sweden
“It’s fantastic and very fun for being an exchange student here. It’s very interactive. In Sweden, it’s super boring to compare to others because there’s only an old guy talking for three hours. Here we actually get to interact and talk to the teacher which is very fun and I’m a social person so it’s very good for me.
In Thailand, I like the people. They are super humble and very nice. The food is amazing and cheap as well and also the whole atmosphere is very much more chill compared to Europe.
About the exchange program, the experience of getting to know another culture it’s very humbling to see how people live here and go through the whole process and experiencing everything here is very cool. I would recommend it!
- Manith Nop from Cambodia
“I’m an exchange student for one semester in iMTM program so It was very great that I met a lot of friends. When I was at CamEd Business School the study was based on like series almost 100 percent but when we switch to study here it’s Work-based Education so it’s really different. I like it because they have a lot of activities that I’ve never done in Cambodia, like we have to go to provinces to study and to get experience from them and use it in our project.
I gain a lot of experiences here and met new friends. It’s really good to be here. I think just grab the chance it’s not really easy to be an exchange student in Thailand so just grab the chance. “
